The Thermax Mini-Max Is Amazing!
Hi All;

Now, let's be clear that our new Mini-Max has been in our home and running for less than 2 hours but I absolutely can't believe how much 'crap' it's pulling out of our air!..The once clean water in the bowl is already grey!!

I bought the Mini-Max because we smoke and I can't stand the cloud that occurs in our downstairs living room at night when we retire to watch TV. As I sit here, writing this note, there isn't a trace of smoke...How cool is that?!..It's all sloshing around inside the Mini-Max's bowl of water!!

I just walked upstairs where my beautiful wife is burning her candles which she uses to clean the air and all it smelled like was smog, which is exactly why I investigated products like the Mini-Max...Huge difference!

My new little buddy (the Thermax, Mini-Max) made it a pleasure to come back-down stairs to much fresher air.
I'm going to dump the dirty water on a nightly basis rather than waiting for it to get to a certain level. I will also only use a few drops of sanitizer and 'smelly oils' rather than goobs of drops, dumping and replacing the water more often...It's too easy to do!

I have an email request in to one of the distributor, asking about using Apple Cider Vinegar in the water to reduce dirt build-up in the working parts and/or on the bowl..Report to follow.

I so-much want this concept to work and be wonderful. I'll keep you posted. Your Pal...Bill Lohr

It works, but still unsure of it
I just bought one of these, and have had it running for two weeks now. Here is what you should know. First of all, it was fairly loud out of the box. But over the course of the first week, as the motor broke in, it became a little quieter each day. I was worried that it wasn't doing anything at first, because it really doesn't move much air. But it definately picks up a lot of crud out of the air. The 'clean' water will often become VERY cloudy over the course of 24 hours. The 'smell' addetives they include are not as critical as they make it sound. It cleans the air just fine with plain water. However, if I have company coming over, I may add a drop of the blue stuff just to help freshen up the room a little more.

I finally understand the weakness of a water-based air cleaner compared to the other types. The other ones you can just setup in some corner, and forget about it for weeks. That is not the case with this machine. Because water evaporates, you need to pay attention to this thing every day. Currently, the water goes down from the MAX line to the MIN line in about 24 hours, so I have to add or replace the water every day. I am also worried that this machine will not live very long. It seems cheaply constructed, and I am concerned it might stop working after a few months.

I bought it for a room in my house that honestly does not smell very good. I have tried cleaning it thuroughly, but that doesnt fix the problem. The smell does seem to have diminished quite a bit over these past two weeks that I have been running this machine.

I do recommend this to anyone who is looking for a low budget air cleaner, but with the understanding that you need to keep an eye on it's water level every day. Otherwise, don't bother buying it. It will not do you any good if all the water evaporates.

Motor died after a year
I like this air cleaner, though it's quite expensive for what's included. Plan on refilling the water weekly, more if your climate has little humidity or higher altitude. The bowl needs to be cleaned and soaked for a day once a month.

After running for a year, the motor stopped working.

The Best Air Purifier Yet
We traded in our HEPA Silent Comfort air purifier because it is noisy and, while it works, doesn't cleanse the air sufficiently of cigarette smoke. We bought two of these to try in our 3,500 square foot house and immediately decided to buy two more. It's remarkably quiet and sitting two yards from a person smoking, I can't smell the cigarette.

In addition to a reduction in allergy symptoms -- red eyes and runny noses, we've noticed the increase in humidity has reduced the natural dryness that comes from living in the desert. We're still waiting, wondering and hoping we'll notice a reduction in the need to dust. It seems logical that these air purifiers would also trap the desert dust from the air.

This is a great product and we're very glad we tried it.

New Information:
We've had the purifiers almost a month. We noticed buildup under the hood from the water. It isn't easy to clean because the top -- the area where all the electronics are -- doesn't come apart. There doesn't appear any easy way to clean the hard water spots.

I wrote to the manufacture to ask if there a way to disassemble the purifier to clean the top.

Update 27MAR09; Thermax Responded to the question about cleaning the motor assembly about four hours after I emailed the question. Great customer support.

Here's their answer:
The motor assembly does not come apart. The easiest way to clean the hard water deposits is with a rag, hot water and vinegar. You can also mix water and vinegar and run it in the unit as you would water and fragrance to break down/clean the hard water deposits.

Thank you and we appreciate your comments!

SINCERELY,
